AWC Animation

Founded in 1994, the WGAW’s Animation Writers Caucus represents over 600 animation writers and works to advance economic and creative conditions in the field. Through organizing efforts, educational events, and networking opportunities, the AWC is a leading proponent for animation writers.

The AWC sponsors many events during the year and hosts a panel and reception in participation with Comic-Con International. The AWC is also responsible for the administration of the annual WGAW-AWC Animation Writing Award.

Benefits of Caucus Membership

AWC members receive WGAW mailings and communications, may serve on WGAW committees, use the WGAW Script Registration Service at a reduced rate, and attend The Guild Screenings. AWC members may also become members of the Musicians' Interguild Credit Union (subject to their discretion).

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants are required to have written the equivalent of one half-hour of produced animation. (If you are contracted to write the equivalent of one half-hour of animation which has not yet been produced, please contact the Organizing Department for further instructions.)

Cover Your Work

The Guild has achieved success in organizing animation writers. WGA-covered animation writers receive the same rights and benefits as their live action counterparts, including residual payments, credit arbitrations, Guild minimums and pension and health.

You want your television show or film to be the best, sell into the most markets, and get the biggest audience. For any television or film project to be successful it needs to attract the best writers and keep them. WGA members are recognized as the most talented professional writers in the entertainment industry.

Under a WGA agreement the writers you employ will be eligible to participate in the WGA Pension & Health Funds. These Funds, which are among the best in the industry, allow writers to qualify for portable medical and retirement benefits that follow them from job to job. Access to these benefits gives your company a significant competitive advantage in securing top talent.

The benefits you can provide by having your show written under a Guild contract will keep your writers happy and not bust your budget.

Simple Contract

The WGAW will work with you to negotiate the terms of employment for writers.

The costs associated with being a WGA-covered show are reasonable. There is no cost to become signatory and the amount that goes into the writers’ pension and health funds are modest.
